Do not use magic erasers on glossy paint, it will ruin the gloss.

When talking about vacuum filters, please note that the foam/cotton filter pair underneath the canister is referred to as ONE filter. The other two filters are the mesh filter at the top of the canister (must be checked frequently because it gets clogged) and the HEPA filter at the front bottom of the vacuum.

Places you CANNOT use Barkeeper’s Friend

  • Polished stone such as marble or granite as it will leave corrosive marks that will be impossible to ignore once done

  • Concrete, wood, or any other porous surface. It is formulated to work on non-porous surfaces such as glass, stainless steel, ceramic, porcelain, brass, and aluminum. Steer clear of surfaces that allow liquids to pass through or be absorbed by it.

  • Appliances with protective layers: Refrigerators, the front of the stove, dishwashers, toaster ovens, etc. These appliances all have a coating to protect the metal and help repel fingerprints that will be destroyed by BKF.

  • Lacquered, painted, tinted, mirrored surfaces or colored grout. The mineral abrasive in BFK can ruin these surfaces and take the color off of painted or surface-colored grout. This includes colored faucets and drain covers.

  • Any surface that you cannot rinse well. The process/method for using BFK is: wet the surface you intend to clean, sprinkle the cleaner onto the surface, gently scrub with a sponge or wet cloth, rinse thoroughly and dry. The thorough rinsing is an important step of this process to make sure no residue gets left behind. Avoid using BFK in enclosed, non-drained spaces that can’t be easily rinsed like the inside of an oven or microwave interior.

  • Gold and Silver. Keep BFK away from precious metals! It will ruin materials that it was not engineered to clean, including gold and silver jewelry. It is however okay to use on sterling silver flatware.
